Beware elephants above - Rating 3/5

The food was VERY good! We reserved a double room and were told it would be a room with a king bed, we were given a huge room with two double beds, which was fine. The room itself was, reasonably clean, the bath however was not!! It looked like it hadn't been cleaned properly for some time by the build up of dirt and soap scum surrounding the plug hole area. The TV was old, small and the picture quality terrible. These were fairly minor gripes but the big issue was the noise! The floor boards creaked with every step. This may not of been an issue if we hadn't been on the first floor with a family of morris dancing elephants on the floor above, stomping around from 5.15am!!!! Needles to stay didn't stay another night.

Response

Hi Lynn, thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your meal at the castle.I am sorry to hear about the issues with your room. Regarding the noise, I am sorry that it caused an issue for you - unfortunately due to the age of the castle, creaking floorboards can be difficult to avoid. The whole room, including the bath, is usually cleaned every day, however perhaps something had been missed this time - I have passed this issue on to the housekeeping team so hopefully it will not happen again.

Absolutely friendly staff make this stay very positive! For the price you can’t go wrong. We were meet ( when we found someone ) by a very friendly woman who checked us in and showed us to our room. We ate our evening meal there which was very good. The young man that served us was also very friendly.

John - Rating 4/5

Overall a very comfortable stay. However since I had some work to do before meetings the lack of wifi in my room was a major drawback. This did not detract from a good stay in a wonderful building.

Response

Hi John, thank you for your review. While unfortunately the WiFi doesn\'t reach individual rooms, it can be accessed in the communal areas on the ground floor. We are glad that you enjoyed your time staying here in Broomhall Castle nonetheless, and hope to see you again soon!

Castle with a view - Rating 5/5

You're never sure from the name of the establishment what sort of building it is. A couple of nights prevously I had stayed in some accomodation with the word "Palace"in the name. It wasn't a palace, more like a hostel, although it was perfectly adequate for my needs. So what would Broomhall Castle be? An elderly town house with a couple of turrets and delusions of grandeur? No! It's actually a castle. It got better inside. The room was huge, the largest room I have ever stayed in and trust me I have stayed in a few. The four poster bed was a new one for me as well and of equally impressive dimensions. Had I been travelling with a partner I think we could easily have lost each other in that bed.The staff were helpful and courteous and the views over the valley weren't half bad either. The room was reasonably priced and on the whole I think I will be booking in here again should I ever be up near Stirling.

A warm welcome - Rating 4/5

Definitely recommend Broomhall Castle. We loved our large and well furnished bedroom with equally large and comfortable bedDidn’t find the time to enjoy the very deep bath - such luxury in today’s world! Scott is very welcoming and even whilst waiting at table during the tasty supper found time to chat to us. It is a treat to have an individually cooked breakfast instead of the ubiquitous bland hot buffet. Friendly breakfast staff to start the day well.

Simply Stunning!!! - Rating 5/5

From the moment we arrived, we were immediately impressed... The castle itself is just beautiful... On entering, we were greeted by Scott who was extremely pleasant with a great sense of humour... We have mutual interests so we were talking about those for a while... He then showed us to our room and all I can say is WOW!!!... I'm never lost for words but on this occasion I was!!!... The room is huge!!!... It has so many wonderful feature but without a doubt, the showstopper is the bed... A massive, solid four poster bed!!!...Which by the way, felt like we were sleeping on a cloud... The bathroom is fabulous and the roll top bath is devine!!!... Our night was over far too soon but before leaving, we had a delicious breakfast, served to us by the nicest girl, who was an absolute delight to speak to... I have so much more to say and I'll be leaving further reviews elsewhere, but for now, I'd just like to say a massive thank you, to everyone at Broomhill Castle, who ensured we had an amazing experience and a night to remember... We will be returning very soon... Kind regards, Anne-Marie and Matthew x

I do love a castle.- Rating 4/5

I can not complain, we had a comfortable stay, good food and spacious room, the price was superb with a good breakfast included. I do feel though I'd be disappointed if paying the full price, the castle is wonderful but lacking in so much to give it quality and feel of one. The service was good, but left mainly to one man to run around chasing his tail, but he most certainly had some tales to tell.

Response

Thank you for your comments, we always appreciate guest feedback and I hope you can come back and stay with us another time.

Partners 50th- Rating 5/5

Very happy with our stay at Broomhall Castle. No sooner had we parked up we were met at the door by Scott, who continued to be as attentive throughout our stay. The room (room 3) was huge! Clean (yes I ran my finger over surfaces :)). Not a speck of dust. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Food was excellent and restaurant service both at dinner and breakfast. Constructive criticism, work on the lift, as a person with mobility issues, to be told that the lift could be put on but I would be quicker taking the stairs, isn't great and may deter some potential visitors from coming to the hotel. Otherwise I cannot fault the hotel or the staff and hope to make it back sometime. Kind regards

The Good:Location, building facade and hosts were great. Friendly and prompt service. The location is beautiful and very nice for walking and exploring. The "Just OK":Our room details were not clear on the booking site we used, so we were disappointed to not find a nice tub in the bathroom like shown in the pictures. The TVs do not work well (thick walls and bad weather,) and the WiFi was also not reliable.Overall we had a nice time and would recommend.

The staff were friendly and helpful :they deserved abetter hotel! Our room was admirably spacious but the lift was out of order, the blinds did not work and there was mould flourishing in the potentially delightful bathroom. The food was very poor.

Response

Thank you for your response and I\'m sorry that we didn\'t live up to your expectations on this occasion and we will be discussing your comments at our next client review meeting. The lift breaking down was obviously not planned and not what we would wish for our guests but sadly it happened when you were booked to stay here and I apologise for the inconvenience.

Love Broomhall Castle - Rating 5/5

I absolutely love Broomhall Castle. Stayed a couple of times now, and it's the only place I'll ever stay when I'm in the area.Everything from the friendly, welcoming staff, big, comfortable rooms, fantastic food is top of the line for me.Only slight downside is that the Wifi can be a bit flaky in the rooms, but castle walls are thick, and there's not much anyone can do about that...Unless you can't survive without super fast wifi all the time, there's nowhere anywhere near Stirling I'd come close to recommending as highly.

Response

Thank you for your excellent review and for taking the time to write it and I\'m delighted that you always enjoy your stay with us - sorry about the wifi but you are right, the walls are just too thick and short of knocking them down there isn\'t much we can do about it but glad it didn\'t put you off !

medieval charm - Rating 3/5

This hotel should be refurbished, especially the bathrooms - the shower was full of black toxic mold! The rooms are very big and so are the very comfortable doublebeds. The food in the restaurant was ok, but there was little choice. The tables in the restaurant appeared rather untidy. Theladies serving breakfast tried to do their best. All in all:the interior of the hotel does not match the grandeur of the castle building. As everything in Scotland:too expensive for the value given!

Sleeping in a castle - what more could you want?!- Rating 4/5

Broomhall Castle is beautiful from the outside and tucked away just outside of Stirling with nice views, it is in a very peaceful setting. We received a friendly welcome and were given the option to dine in the restaurant that evening, which we decided to do. Food was good with friendly service. Our room was spacious with everything we needed / expected. There was some black mould in the very corner of our bath/shower which may need cleaning off or re-grouting at some point. Otherwise the room was clean. Floorboards are creaky as you’d expect from such an old historic building. Whilst the castle hasn’t been renovated luxuriously, it is very charming &perfect for a cosy castle stay in Scotland!

A night stay at the castle.- Rating 4/5

The castle was very cute! The staff was very friendly but not easy to locate. We were given only 1 large towel. Outside it could be fixed up really cute,as a bench had the paint peeling off and the cute water fountain was all dried up with weeds. Great food for breakfast.

Nice and quite stay in a very peaceful surrounding - Rating 4/5

We stayed our first night of a trip across Scotland at Broomhall Castle and enjoyed very much the nice and quite location. The hotel is within easy reach from Edinburgh Airport which was very convenient since we arrived late in the evening. We very much enjoyed our stay and a short walk in the early morning in the peaceful surroundings.

Our grandson was very excited to be staying in a castle and this did not disappoint. We had a really spacious room with 2 king sized beds.Dinner was very good and grandson thought chicken was better than a certain large chain. Praise indeed from him. He also ate all his porridge, well done chef.Very enjoyable stay. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Would recommend.

Castle experience- Rating 4/5

Lovely castle in the country! We had a family room, which worked perfectly for us. Castle is further from Stirling than expected with limited dining options. Our room was clean, comfortable and met our needs. Breakfast was delicious and filling. Lounge was comfortable and a nice place to unwind. Exactly what I was expecting from a castle hotel.

Black family stay - Rating 4/5

Hi there - just to let you know we enjoyed our stay for Rhona's graduationThere are a few details that we would suggest that would improve a stay for anyone.I would suggest that you get rid of the basket that the tea/coffee sits in be removed from the rooms - they are stained and not very pleasant on the eye, neither are the milk packets just chucked onto the tray. The staff working there over the days we stayed were fantastic and very apologetic regarding the lift being broken (it would have been really good to know as this was really vital for mum - we managed to get her up and down with a struggle!)The other issue is that there needs tobe more than a bit of a toilet roll left in the room and perhaps some spares - I had to ask for spares for our roomThese are just wee things but if they were sorted it would make someone's stay betterOverall - we enjoyed our stay and would recomend the hotel to friends :)

Only issue was the constant checking of staff as to which room we were in at breakfast which is a bit irritating! Overall I really enjoyed our stay and thought it was good value.

It was also interesting to read about the history of the property. We had the pleasant surprise of a pheasant calmly wandering around the castle on the morning we left.

Response

Thank you very much for your review and I\'m delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and hope we can welcome you back here again in the not too distant future. The pheasants do visit us regularly, sometimes whole families of them so I\'m glad you got to see one - obviously on the look out for breakfast !

Beautiful castle- Rating 4/5

Broomhall castle is beautiful on the outside, the staff are very friendly and can’t do enough to help. The unsaid of the castle is not as beautiful and you can see some of the many uses it has had, it vast very clean though. The food was good, we had dinner in the restaurant, my meal was excellent ( salmon) although my partners was a little over cooked ( lamb burger). Breakfast was excellent.Overall I would stay here again it was very good value for money but be prepared for the climb up the stairs.

Broomhall castle experience - Rating 3/5

The place was great in the way that it is in it self beautiful, however the rooms have no wifi, and the blond guy that works there was kind of mucking us because he thought we were not going to play golf due some raining. However he was sooooo wrong since we had a great day even with sun!! Along with that he gave us bad information since he told us that the driving time to the castle to St Andrews was 30 min when in fact it was more than an hour.

Response

Thank you for your review and for taking the time to write it and I\'m sorry that the bedrooms have no wifi but it\'s because the castle walls are so thick and there isn\'t really much we can do about it however wifi is free in all of our public rooms.I\'m also sorry that you were told 30 minutes to St Andrews as it is definately an hour -perhaps this member of staff just drives too fast !

A good last minute change before departure - Rating 5/5

We had a reservation booked for months in Stirling, but a couple of days before our trip to Scotland my lady found this stunning castle/hotel just outside downtown. But too far because we could see it from the top of the William Wallace Monument. From there it was very easy to reach and one can take the car or take the public transport to visit the locals attractions. The staff was very helpful to help us decide what would be the best to do so. The room was rather large and comfortable and the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was just as pleasant and enjoyable with plenty of space. I would definitly recommend this beautiful place.

Response

Thank you so much for your excellent review we work very hard to ensure our guests have a memorable stay and so I\'m delighted that you did, including seeing the castle from the top of the Wallace Monument !Hope we can welcome you here again soon.

Delightful Stay - Charming, Comfortable & Clean! - Rating 5/5

We were positively delighted with our stay at this extremely charming Castle. The staff were incredibly friendly (though a bit scarce during checkin). Every encounter we had with them was wonderful. The room was perfect. It was decently sized (especially in a castle) with an extremely comfortable bed and charming furniture that fit the decor beautifully. We had a lovely view as well. The bathroom was huge and very comfortable.Everything was cleanand comfortable. We ate at the restaurant and really enjoyed that experience and had a whisky at the bar afterwards. The castle had charm and they had the story of the castle in various places (on the menu in the restuarant, in the guest pamphlet in the room) which was fabulous too.Highly recommended!

I was staying on business and found this hotel on trip advisor. It was very quiet because they were closing for a few days to decorate rooms. I was well looked after by very friendly staff and the meal was to a high standard. The room was spacious and comfortable with a quirky little side room inside a turret. Wifi did work in my room (12) although the signal was weak. Breakfast was good with a very efficient service. I would stay again.

Accommodation is superb, our room was beautifully furnished and so warm and welcoming on a winter evening. My daughter has dietary needs and these were catered for with no problems at all. The breakfast menu is amazing. The evening menu looks incredible too, however, we arrived too late. We would certainly stay again.

Lovely - Rating 4/5

First impressions - lovely building, inside and out. Nicely furnished inside. Room decor was in keeping with the castle and was spacious and comfortable with a nice bathroom. Good big towels and nice shower and hair soaps provided. Delicious cookies sitting by the tea tray.Staff were polite and friendly. Only strange thing is there is no actual reception desk, so we went to next room (bar) to find someone to check us in.We are in restaurant - menu is quite limited but food is of a good quality and well presented.Breakfast was good too, even though they forgot the toast that was meant to come with it. They were busy so didn't like to make a fuss, and it didn't detract from our enjoyment of the place.Would we return? Yes, definitely.

Fantastic hotel! The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful from the moment my room was booked, and seemed like they really cared about their guests having the best experience possible, which is very rare to find!My room was clean and beautiful - high ceilings and an extremely comfortable and crisp, clean, warm bed that I didn't want to get out of in the morning!Breakfast was hearty and delicious - not the normal overly-greasy Scottish/English breakfast that you sometimes find - everything was cooked perfectly and ingredients tasted fresh and of high quality. The only downfall is that the wifi connection could be stronger - my room was directly above the router, and I was able to get a signal on my laptop, but not on any other device.Overall though, I had a comfortable, relaxing and very enjoyable stay at the castle, and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to feel like a princess/prince :)

Absolutely Great Stay with Fantastic Customer Service - Rating 5/5

If you have the opportunity to stay at Broomhall Castle, take it. It was a pleasure to stay there. The customer service was fantastic, and they were able to help us with everything we needed. We are from Canada, and had no idea where things were, they took a few points from us and told us what to see in our stay. Fantastic advice. The room was beautiful, and very clean. Location-wise is a bit out of the way, but what a great opportunity to see a small area of Scotland. About ten minutes out of the main area of Stirling, but well worth the time spent! One of my highlights of my trip to Scotland, and would go back in a heartbeat!

We immensely enjoyed our stay at Broomhall castle, set on the slope of picturesque hills. The welcoming staff exceeded our expectations and gave the entire experience a very personal touch. We would highly recommend a stay in a four-poster bed and a romantic dinner in the restaurant. Thanks for such a great time! Also a walk outside the castle at night is essential to see it illuminated by floodlights from all angles.

Fantastic Stay! - Rating 5/5

Myself and my partner came to Broomhall Castle as a wee pre-Christmas treat for the second year in a row.The staff are all really friendly and welcoming at the food in the restaurant is out of this world. We stayed in Room 3 and it was huge! The bed was massive and there were two super comfortable sofas to relax on.In the ensuite there was a lovely roll top bath and a good shower.I find it difficult to find a hotel with a shower that has any sort of decent water pressure so this was particularly good!My only complaint would be the lager in the bar.My partner had a pint and found it to be flat and have a funny taste...he was then up all night ill.Of course we cannot be sure what made him ill but it seems like the pipes hadnt been properly cleaned out, perhaps there were chemicals still in the pipes waiting to be flushed properly after the lines were cleaned.Apart from this though, we were delighted yet again with the hospitality that was shown to us and will certainly be returning as soon as possible!

A-maz-ing!!! - Rating 5/5

When we spotted the castle from the road we couldn't believe how beautiful it looked and that we were actually going to be staying there. If you are looking for something completely different this definitely has the WoW factor! From the second we walked in we were met by the funniest and cheeriest reception I've ever had at a hotel and I stay in the every week with work.Nothing is too much trouble and they even came in early to ensure I had a full cooked breakfast before leaving for work in the early hours. When we asked what time the bar shut the response of 'whenever you go to bed' just shows the culture of customer service present here.We stayed in room 3, a four poster room with views over Stirling as you lie in bed and look out the window. The roll top bath was just gorgeous and we have already decided this is an absolute must hotel to return to.If anyone is unsure, just press the book button as you most definitely won't regret it if you are looking for something that little different quirky.

Lovely location and hospitality- Rating 5/5

From the time we arrived and after we departed the hotel staff very attentive and polite and willing to make our stay as pleasant and enjoyable possible. As a large group this put pressure on the staff not that it showedwe never had a glass empty and assistance when ever we required, food was very tasty well presented and very generous portion size. The actual castle boasts character and is set in a lovely location. This was a business occasion but would defiantly use this for personal. We had happy clients therefore we were very grateful for the fantastic service from all at Broomhall castle.

pleasant stay - Rating 3/5

Attentive staff, lovely room, however, very small updates required in room twelve to make a huge difference Updating the TV and providing a hairdryer would make such a difference to this already fantastic room

Response

thank you for leaving us a review and glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us overall, we are slowly updating all the tvs in the rooms and we will never have hairdryers in the rooms as they get stolen, over the years we have lost 40 to 50!! It does state in our welcome folder in every room that hairdryers are available on request..

While the rooms were rebuilt after a fire, well done and appointed.Very comfortable. The building has wonderful old world charm and the location is great, for Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument and other areas. The real surprise was the fantastic food. The Chef balances flavors skillfully, with a unique twist.Well worth the stay and the food... oh... Broomhall Castle Hotel - Rating 4/5

Spent a lovely night in the Hotel. Room was a good size and the location was beautiful. Much of the inside of the hotel has obviously been re-touched and everything is very clean. Very quirkish but enjoyable. The little decorating and parking limitations are more than made up for by the friendliness of the staff and the good food.

Hidden Gem - Rating 5/5

Broomhall castle is a hidden gem, tucked away in the foothills by Menstrie.Peace and quiet throughout the grounds and surrounding countryside, yet 5mins away from major link roads.Food, a pure joy.I have stayed and eaten in many establishments, this one deserves the title restaurant.Every mouthful was lovingly prepared and equally served.Staff, a young man called David deserves a special mention, as nothing was too much trouble. He is a superior concierge than in some of the 5 star plus hotels I have stayed at.At some point I will return - until I do, I suggest everyone should try this hidden gem, for it's ambience, authentic old world charm, service and excellent value.

Lovely castle with a warm welcome - Rating 5/5

What Broomhall Castle really delivers is that wonderful feeling of "All this? For me?".You really are staying in a castle, and you won't forget it for a moment. The rooms have all the mod-cons, but plenty of period details haunt this building, from its days as a private home through to a visit from the Luftwaffe and even its time as a nursing home (the cleverly repurposed doors). The staff are brilliant, perfectly evoking David Niven in Candleshoe as they juggle a variety of roles simultaneously - the same person who took your bags will pop up to show you into dinner and then pour you a drink at the bar an hour later. In between, you'll catch glimpses of them setting up a function room, or being brilliant with another guest's children. The small team really make it feel personal. And, when you ask their advice about their huge whisky selection or their menu, the answer you get is genuine. The food, by the way, is great. The menu isn't huge, but each dish is clearly loved by the chef (I had a lovely sea bass, but the veggie haggis Wellington was superb), and the puddings are delightful. The coffee, by the way, was the best we'd had all holiday. The castle may not have extensive grounds, but it does throw wonderful views on you from every direction, and the building itself is well worth exploring. Our room was vast, but decorated in a way that made it homely and inviting. There was a sofa ideal for curling up and watching an old film on, the walls were covered with tapestries, and everywhere there was furniture that was classily old without being intimidatingly antique. If there was ever such a thing as a small friendly castle hotel, then this is it.

After staying at Broomhall Castle for a Family Wedding in September 2013, my Wife and I had no hesitation in returning there during a recent visit to Clackmannanshire. A friendly welcome as before and quick and efficient booking in brought back pleasant memories of our last stay. Nice big rooms in a super setting - its easy to see why Broomhall has become a firm favourite with both UK and Foreign visitors. The food is very good and the hospitality very friendly but never obtrusive. Highly recommended for that occasional stay or for those special occasions. ok bad things first, nobody to meet us when we arrived. i was bursting for the loo and had to run up and down stairs to find a toilet. We sat in a lovely room that could have had a cracking view but it was spoiled by dirty windows and a van parked in front of them. Not enough staff to man the bar during the daytime. Now the good points. The meal was second to none, omg amazing. we had the sea bass and i would rate it in top 10 of the country. The cheese board was also fantastic and we really loved it. Breakfast we had to say was the best we have ever had at any hotel in Britain. This place has so much potential but the little things that could be easily remedied have let it down but deffo worth a stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay. All staff were very friendly, professional and efficient. Food, both at dinner and breakfast, were freshly cooked and with some flair! In such an old spacious building (with such a history!), gradually being renovated, there were issues with creaky floorboards and some bare walls but this added to the experience. We were upgraded, without asking, as it was our 40 something anniversary and given the best (turret) table at dinner. This very much sums up the thoughtfulness of the owners and staff. We would without hesitation stay again when in the area

Perfect - Rating 5/5

What a beautiful setting, and a beautiful building. The room was so homely, the bathroom was lovely with a roll top bath, and the bed was probably the most comfortable we've ever stayed in. The staff were so friendly and willing to do anything for you, making the stay just that little but more special. Breakfast was delicious with a range of choices to suit everybody's needs, even had the choice to add extra haggis or black pudding to a full cooked breakfast. Would love to stay there again. Such a delightful place!!!

Birthday treat - Rating 4/5

Just stayed one night as a birthday treat and thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheery welcome, clean and very bright room, perhaps needed paintwork touched up, but lovely view. Excellent evening meal, as good as I've had anywhere however full breakfast was bit tasteless and some of it seemed to have been microwaved. Again cheery staff and quick service. Carpets in need of replacing in restaurant.

Enjoyable stay - Rating 4/5

We enjoyed an overnight stay at Broomhall. Very interesting building with good story of restoration. Good sized room was very comfortable with good warm heating and clean, fresh facilities. Experience could have been a little better with provision of at least one 'easy chair'and greater, less risky, ease of opening the window which had snapped sash cords (a wooden prop was provided. These points did not detract from our overall experience as we enjoyed very much the sumptuous breakfast - I particularly enjoyed the porridge!! Many thanks.

Perfect Location for Clackmanamanshire - Rating 5/5

Having stayed in the Hotel before, I was happy to return. It is in a great location for meetings within the area. The food was once again good. Who can complain about staying in a castle, beats the normal chained groups hands down.

Weekend to remember - Rating 5/5

Our trip was to celebrate a 50th birthday, and was a surprise for the birthday girl, as she had no idea where we were going. On approach, the sun came out and bathed the castle in sunlight, not bad for the first official day of spring. She was speechless! We were greeted by Ann who showed us to room 9 and 10. We were immediately struck by the space, views from the windows in the turret, oh and the fabulous roll top free standing bath. The party started there and then and continued in the lounge until the witching hour, helped along by fabulous food and amazing cocktails. David and Scott could not have done more for us anmade us feel really at home. That's what made this trip special, the service was amazing, fab food, great location. Stay in many hotels for business. Broomhall Castle is a refreshing alternative to the corporate cardboard offering. We will be back! Just hope that you are not fully booked :)

Broomhall Castle Hotel - Rating 3/5

Excellent service and food (breakfast and dinner). Staff very friendly and helpful. Fabric of the building suffering from it's Nursing Home Heritage - e.g. bedroom doors have windows in covered up with black painted paper;sone mismatch in furniture and decor in bedrooms. Floor boards squeak from room above and bathroom extractor fan sounds like a small jumbo jet. However, all round, beats the usual bland chain hotels

valentines night db&b - Rating 4/5

What a lovely place to go for a nights break, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The set valentines menu had a vary of choices for each of our three courses and not only was it a lovely meal,it was also very reasonably priced as normally over inflated prices are a matter of practice on specific dates.Only criticisms we have are that although our turret room was spacious and nicely decorated,we were expecting a kingsize bed as our email confirmation had indicated this and unfortunately it was a double and it had no headboard, also there was a fantastic ensuite but not even a bar of soap in it to wash our hands with, these little touches would I feel benefit the rooms. This all said I would and will definitely be recommending the hotel and coming and staying again in the future is a definite for us.

Response

Hi ThomasThank you for leaving a review and glad that overall you enjoyed your stay with us, I have dropped you an email to apologize for the criticisms you had, the double bed was an emergency as the king size had been broken and not replaced yet, we should have told you on check in so our apologies for that, the bar of soap again was something that was missed as we do put shower gel and soaps in every bathroom (two of each) and replenished daily so again my apoligies that this was missed from your room, if you are ever back in the area and are looking to stay with us again please drop us an email directly and I will make sure you get a great deal!!

Broomhall Castle - Rating 4/5

Having seen pictures of Broomhall Castle online we arrived to a lovely welcome from David, very friendly, informative and helpful. He showed us to our room, on the top floor. A nice big room, huge bed, newly refurbished bathroom. All good so far...Downside....TV reception was appalling, even after being advised to hang the antenna out of the window...no wifi on top floor, no lift...Fantastic bathroom....Sadly, the lovely double shower had controls that were flimsy and falling apart. No mirror in bathroom or toilet roll holder. The bathroom itself was very impressive on first view, shame about the cheap wobbly toilet seat.It was clear there were not enough staff on duty as the bar was also run by David and his colleague who were also waiting on in the restaurant, this was also evident when we checked out to be told a receipt would have to be emailed as there was nobody in the office, this was at 9.30 AM. All in all though a really enjoyable stay, fantastic room, Broomhall, you just need to have a finite view on your room standards, they are complete or they are not.To be honest in a recommendation to others.......absolutely, yes!!!!!!!!Your staff made this recommendation possible with their friendly approach, I recommend them all 100%A little more effort to the bathroom and TV would have gained 5 stars

Response

Hi DavidThank you for leaving a review for us and glad you enjoyed yourself.. our apologies for the TV reception and WiFi but with walls this thick we have been quoted seriously silly amounts to fix it and we don't think its that important :) we're a castle need to be old fashioned on some things.. but we are working on solutions.. the TV hopefully is fixable but the WiFi will more than likely only be available on the ground floor in the lounges and bar.. next time you are coming drop us an email and we will make sure you are in a room with perfect reception (or as perfect as can get surrounded by hills)I will pass on your comments to David and let him know he is still doing a cracking job.. the toilet seat has been replaced, we only ever have two staff on at night as with a maximum of 32 people at any one point we feel two should be more than capable of looking after the place.. Tuesday morning when you checked out, there were no office staff in all day, I could come up with some excuse.. training exercise, marketing meeting, but recovering from a wine tasting on the Monday is the truth :)I hope to see you back at the castle soonRod

A Hit and Miss - Rating 3/5

A couple of WOW factors. Some good factors.A few 'not so good' factors. This is definetly 'Work in Progress',and it very much depends what you want from a bed/breakfast experience. It would be unfair to score it either high or low. Hence why Ive scored it average. However, I will return as I am intrigued to know what it is going to turn out like. With 'proper investment' this could be spectacular. I do feel though this is a way off, and some 'direction' is required.

Great Character - Rating 5/5

Whilst still very much a 'work in progress' Broomhall Castle offers a spectacular building full of interest, friendly and attentive staff and great food. Whilst there are one or two snaggings still to be ironed out in the finish, this is more than made up for by the excellent value for money. If you want a hotel of great character that does the basics right, but without the frills of spas etc., this makes an excellent choice.

My husband and I along with a friend had a wonderful time when we stayed at Broomhall Castle. The service provided was pleasant and helpful when needed. We unfortunately were unable to enjoy the evening meals offered as we were off exploring the area.My husband and I stayed in room #1, loved the quaintness it offered to our stay. It would be helpful to have a mirror in the main room instead of just the bathroom.I also noticed that some of the décor (rugs, wall paint, etc) could use some updating or cleaning. Some areas looked quite worn.Thank you for a wonderful experience while visiting Stirling.

This hotel has got bags of potential. It is found in stunning location at the foot of the hills with so many lovely walks and is an architectural delight. The staff are very helpful and the prices very reasonable. The breakfast is hearty and served with a smile. The finesse of the place does lack quite a bit.We had a lovely room which unfortunately had a very tatty carpet. Shame really as the beds very comfortable and quality of pillows excellent.Bathrooms look brand new, shame for the small broken tile in Room 7.The finishing of the whole place still needs improving (eg many cigarette butts outside main entance as no bin supplied for guests smoking outside, and big cobwebs in corner of conservatory not to mention the very tired looking sofas).Overall a good short stay and good value for money.I would recommend it to anyone who is not very fussy.I would personally happily stay at Broomhall castle again.

Stirlings Finest. - Rating 5/5

Greeted by Ty on arrival, who was very helpful and friendly. Room was excellent, and bed was most comfortable I've known in any hotel. Food was a good standard and well priced. But most of all, the building is stunning and the views breathtaking. You will not be disappointed if you stay here.

Myself &my husband stayed at Broomhall for my 30th birthday. I stated on booking I would like a room with a view and we were given the most beautiful room. The food was perfect, staff very friendly and it was the most relaxed I have ever felt staying in a hotel. Can't wait to our next visit :)

Family Break - Rating 5/5

As an addition to visiting faily in Scotland my wife and I decided to make a holiday of it and have a couple of days in the Stirling area with our 12 week old son. After searching the net we decided to stay at Broomhall Castle Hotel. We were not disappointed with our choice as we were greeted personally by the owner and were made to feel at home immediately.During our stay we were upgraded to a four poster room which was very spacious with a ver comfortable bed. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and the food was terrific.Thank you very much for a pleasurable stay. We will be recommending your hotel to our friends and are sure to visit again in the not too distant future.Kenny, Vicki and Baby Alistair

We came to Broomhill Castle to celebrate my 60th birthday. Unknown to me my husband had arranged for our family to be there to help celebrate.Nothing was too much for the staff. The staff all kept the secret and helped to spring the surprise. The meal was first class everyone enjoyed their stay and we will certainly go back. A big thank you to everyone

Anniversary celebration - Rating 4/5

This was our 3rd visit to the castle and was once again most relaxing and enjoyable. As usual we found all the staff friendly and helpful, but were a little disappointed with the resticted choices on the new restaurant menu, and also were disappointed that at the time we were there the bar had no alcohol licence and could not serve any drinks. However, not to be put off by this we probably will be back next year.

Lovely Broomhall Castle - Rating 5/5

We spent our 20th anniversary at Broomhall Castle and enjoyed the warmth of the accommodations and staff as well. Our room was spacious with spectacular views and nicely appointed with lovely furnishings. Our dinner was very good - just be sure to bring your own liquor if you want something to drink as it is BYOB.All in all, a very good experience.Great location too as the Stirling Castle is nearby and a wonderful historical site.

Can't speak well enough of all the staff members we met during our stay.Everyone was very accommodating and helpful with information on the area attractions.Rooms were clean and comfortable. One suggestion would be to add to the lounge area, possibly a collection of books, area information and history or small games.

We travelled as a family but our children are not young (15 and 18). :)We greatly enjoyed our stay at Broomhall. The location and theme of the castle are wonderful, however what really made the stay exceptional was the warm and friendly people.Right from our first greeting when we checked in to our way out the door, we were met with wonderful hospitality. We also verymuch enjoyed the wonderful breakfasts and dinner. The people make the place and we would certainly highly recommend Broomhall!Thank you for a great visit.

Huge rooms - Rating 4/5

The room was lovely and large with comfortable and enormous beds. The restaurant service was very friendly and fast, and the food was lovely. Some aspects of the room were a little tired such as faded carpet and a cupboard door that wouldn't close. A spot in the bathroom to place toiletries would have been nice. But it was a very pleasant stay and we would recommend it to others.

Very nice - Rating 4/5

Our stay here was amazing! We were the only guests staying there that night, so it felt nice to have a castle to ourselves! Breakfast was very good, only wish that wi-fi worked in the room.

Response

Thank you for your kind words and comments, unfortunately due to the thickness of the walls the wifi only covers the ground floor and some of the rooms on the first floor... Hopefully it didn't upset your stay too much.. Rod

We highly recommend this. - Rating 5/5

We had a brilliant stay here! The castle itself is great and the new owners are doing a fantastic, professional job of refurbishing it. Customer services are EXCELLENT - the owners extremely sociable, staff too. Nothing was too much trouble. Much better than an impersonal chain owned hotel. Can't fault them for their refreshing 'personal touch'! The room was really nice and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was modern and smart. Breakfast was good, too. We were very satisfied with everything and as an added bonus, it was extremely good value for money! We will be back.

One of the Best - Rating 5/5

Our second stay at Broomhall Castle and again we can say that although we only stayed one night each time both times we were greeted by a friendly staff. Our dinner again was of a high standard with the quality of food excellent, breakfast was also to the same high standard. Our room this time was bigger and of a higher quality and with having the roll top bath this was just the best thing to have, after having been shooting at a longbow archery competition all day. We will most definitely be back. Thanks to all.PS the personal email upon bookiing from Ty just adds to the little things that make for a better stay.

Babymoon - Rating 4/5

We have just returned from a lovely stay at Broomhall Castle. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful which creates a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, the food was geat - more home-cooked than fine dining but very tasty, and our room comfortable. A great place to stay for a reasonably priced castle break, although more of a b&b than hotel. Couldn't help feeling that few small changes could make a huge improvement, inparticular more atmospheric lighting in the dining room during the evening would be lovely and would probably encourage non-resident diners, also do not disturb signs for the rooms would allow guests to make the most of the very comfy beds in the morning if staying more than one night.

Awesome setting, room was brilliant (we had a 4 poster bedroom)and the food was very good. The only slight down side we had was that there is no reception desk and no real way of contacting staff if you needed anything. Although this did not cause us any great problem it did mean that you could end up standing at the bar waiting to get a drink.

We are a family of 4-two teenagers-so I had booked two rooms. We stayed only one night but felt it was a shame we that we didn't stay longer.I absolutely loved the room that my husband and I stayed in-I believe it was listed as an emperor sized bed. The room with two beds was perfect for my kids. We only had breakfast at the hotel and it was delicious. The staff, the grounds, the atmosphere-everything was perfect.

Almost there. - Rating 3/5

A very nice hotel, with excellent staff and food. The wonderful old building desperately needs a little running repair, particularly in the corridors and bedrooms...the lack of attention to detail was frustrating as this hotel has amazing potential to be one of the best boutique B&B hotels in the region, instead poor joinery, and painting, along with a dirty window that didn't open and a cronky old tv almost spoilt a wonderful stay. I would certainly stay again because the staff and meals were fabulous, just please spend a bit more time and money on the bedrooms
